Repossession Help From Mobile Bay to the Tennessee Line
Nationwide Repo coordinates repossession services across Alabama for banks, credit unions, finance companies, dealers, and individual lienholders. Birmingham and Huntsville generate the volume; the rest comes from everywhere — Montgomery, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Dothan, the lake towns, and a whole lot of red dirt roads in between.
When the collateral isn't where the paperwork says it should be, skip tracing services run first. A borrower who works a shift at one of the auto plants might park the truck at a cousin's place two counties over, and nobody needs to learn that standing in an empty driveway.
Before You Assign: The Late-Payment Trap
Here's the thing most lenders find out the hard way. Alabama case law treats a pattern of accepted late payments as a possible waiver — keep cashing checks on the 25th for a note due on the 1st, and you may lose the right to repossess without warning the borrower first that strict terms are back in effect.
The fix is cheap: if the account has a history of accepted late payments, mail a letter reinstating the original terms before you assign the recovery, and keep a copy in the account record. Run the specifics past counsel — the doctrine turns on the facts — but don't let a $70 stamp problem turn into a wrongful-repossession claim.
Account clean and ready to go? Send the lien, the borrower's details, and the last known address — most new accounts get a first look the same day.

Metro recovery here means Birmingham's suburban sprawl, Hoover parking decks, Huntsville's new subdivisions full of badge-access defense workers, and shift-change rows at the Mercedes, Honda, and Hyundai plants. Rural recovery is a different sport — long gravel drives in the Black Belt, hunting land behind a locked gate, timber tracts, poultry farms, and a boat that summers on Lake Martin or Guntersville and winters under a tarp.
Down on the coast, Baldwin County adds its own wrinkle: condo garages in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, marina slips, and snowbird borrowers whose cars follow them south in November. Different maps, same discipline — verify first, recover clean, document everything.

Alabama Paperwork Notes
Titles: Questions on titles and registration go through the Alabama Motor Vehicle Division, (334) 242-9056. The uniform certificate has been standard since 1975-model vehicles, so very old collateral can be a special case.
Peaceful Recovery: Self-help repossession is permitted without a court order when it's done lawfully and without breach of the peace.
Plates: Unlike a lot of states, plates stay with the vehicle after recovery — plan the transport and storage paperwork accordingly.
Pre-Sale Notice: Creditors give the borrower at least ten days' notice before any sale, and the notice must show the full amount owed including recovery costs. A deficiency may be pursued after a properly run sale.
Transfer: Ownership transfer takes the certificate, an affidavit of repossession, and a bill of sale showing gross proceeds and the odometer reading — with every lien on the certificate released. Confirm current requirements before disposal.
